(Exira, IA) — The High School Volleyball playoffs begin tonight and in Class 1A, Region 8, CAM will visit Exira EHK in a first round match-up, coverage on KSOM.
This will be the third meeting of the season between the two conference rivals with the Spartans winning both. In the regular season meeting in Anita, Exira EHK won 3-1 — with the scored tied at 1-1, the Cougars benched their entire starting line up and the 2nd unit played the third set. Co Head Coach Ethan Wessling says he hopes the team got the message that they have to play their best every time they take the court
The Spartans and Cougars also met in the conference tournament on Saturday — Exira EHK would get a 2-0 win but both sets were close 22-20 and 21-18. The Spartans would lose in the finals to Coon Rapids Bayard while CAM won the third place match. CAM is led by Senior Maddie Richter with 168 kills, 287 digs and 21 aces. Junior Krista James has 126 kills and Sophomore Ruthie Rich has added 115 kills. Wessling says it is Sophomore Courtney Follmann who is keeping everything together as the setter with 372 assists

Exira EHK is led by the Petersens — Junior Jaelynn has 190 kills, 105 digs, 32 blocks and 34 aces while Sophomore Tayn has 143 kills, 131 digs, 15 blocks and 46 aces. Wessling says the Cougars need to receive better on the Spartans dangerous service game
Exira EHK has struggled in some of their matches towards the later part of he season — they got swept by Atlantic for instance — but Head Coach Derek Reischauer believes his team righted the ship in the conference tournament on Saturday
Reischauer says that even though CAM’s record is not impressive, it does not reflect how good a team they are
CAM is 9-18, Exira EHK is 14-5, game time is 7pm, coverage on KSOM. The winner will meet either #13 Fremont Mills or Hamburg on Wednesday night.
