(Council Bluffs) The Council Bluffs Police Department says they, along with local schools, have been alerted to screenshots circulating online that contain threats of school violence. After thorough investigation, it has been determined that these images are being widely shared across the Midwest and do not have a specific point of origin. There is no evidence to suggest that these threats are directed at or originated from Council Bluffs, but they continue to spread within the community.
Social media can facilitate the rapid spread of unverified information. If you encounter any content resembling a school threat, do not share or repost it. Instead, report it to local law enforcement, school officials, or through the Safe and Sound Iowa website at https://safeandsoundiowa.gov/.
Council Bluffs Police Department officials stated, “We take all school violence threats very seriously and will continue to treat them with the utmost urgency. Please remember that it is a crime to create or share electronic messages intended to intimidate or cause alarm,”
