(New York, NY) – Former Iowa Hawkeye, Caitlin Clark, has been named the 2024 Honda Cup Award winner for the second straight season. Not only was Clark the first Iowa athlete to win the Honda Sport Award for Hawkeye Basketball, but she is now the only one to win it in back-to-back seasons.
Clark was the NCAA all-time leading scorer for Division I men’s or women’s basketball and led the conference in scoring and assists in four consecutive seasons. Not only did Clark lead the country in points per game with 31.6, she also led with 8.9 assists per game to break the NCAA women’s tournament scoring record during Iowa’s NCAA Tournament run. She is now just the fourth player of all time to win the award in back-to-back seasons.
The Honda Sport Award has been presented by the CWSA for 48 years and honors the nation’s top NCAA athletes for their academic excellence, eagerness to participate in community service, leadership, and superior athletic skills. Honda has provided more than $3.6 million in grants to universities with their partnership with the CWSA since 1986.
While Clark is currently focused on her career with the Indiana Fever, she was not in attendance to receive the award. Iowa’s Lisa Bluder and Jan Jensen were in New York to receive the award on behalf of the WNBA star.
Some of the other finalists for the Honda Cup were gymnast Haleigh Bryant, softball player NiJaree Canady, and volleyball player Madisen Skinner.
