(Anita, IA) – The CAM Cougars currently sit atop the Rolling Valley Conference with a record of 5-2 in conference play this season with some teams not far behind them. The Cougars are 10-6 this season giving them more wins than they had last season after finishing 9-16. CAM is coming off a win against Coon Rapids-Bayard to keep them atop the RVC. The Cougars started the season off 7-2 before finding themselves in some tough stretches.
Head softball coach Jeni Follmann noticed their struggles and is hoping to get back on the right track.
Offensively, the Cougars have been solid averaging just over seven runs per game. In the batter’s box CAM is being led by eighth-grader Keeley Kinney. The young infielder leads the team in hits, doubles, total bases, batting average and on-base percentage. One area the Cougars have been great in this year is putting the ball in play. Opponents only strike them out five times per game, good enough for second in the RVC behind Woodbine.
Follmann believes the change in approach when behind in the count has helped them this year.
Ailey Wahlert has been on the mound this season for CAM and has pitched all but six innings this season. The eighth-grader has also helped out the team offensively leading the team in home runs and RBIs. With Wahlert and Kinney already having an impact on the team as eighth-graders, the future is bright for the Cougars.
CAM will play at Audubon tonight (June 25) starting at 5:30.
