(Audubon) The Audubon County Board of Supervisors held another public hearing to amend the zoning ordinance for the Apex Energy wind turbine project between Brayton and Elk Horn. Audubon County Board of Supervisor Chairman Heath Hanson says the supervisors must hold a series of public hearings before officially changing the ordinance.
The Board of Supervisors will hold two more public hearings regarding the new ordinance, which calls for setbacks for non-participating residents to be 1,750 feet from a residence and 1,250 feet for those participating in the turbine project. Apex Energy is building between 60 and 100 turbines from Brayton to Elk Horn.
The Supervisors also discussed a plan to reinforce the courthouse roof to hold the new units as part of the latest HVAC system—the main concern is drainage.
The courthouse is currently under construction to install a significant HVAC project. The board agreed on a solution and awaits the cost to reinforce. Those figures should reach the supervisors’ desks as early as next week.
