(Greenfield) Residents of Greenfield say they’re grateful for the support after last week’s deadly tornado. Still, they know cleaning up the devastation will take a long time. Ray Sorensen of Greenfield and the District #23 Iowa House Representative had this to say about the destruction this storm brought to Greenfield.
The E-F 4 tornado-packed winds of 175-185 miles per hour. Four people were killed, and more than 150 homes were destroyed in less than one minute.
FEMA opened a Disaster Recovery Center in Greenfield on Sunday, May 26, to provide one-on-one assistance for people affected by the recent tornadoes and severe storms. Recovery specialists from FEMA and the U.S. Small Business Administration will provide information on available services, explain disaster assistance programs, and help people complete or check the status of federal assistance applications.
The Disaster Recovery Center is located at Greenfield City Hall, 202 South First Street, and will remain open from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. daily. FEMA can provide money to eligible homeowners and renters for help with needs such as paying for a temporary place to live, home repairs, and other needs not covered by insurance. To save time, please apply with FEMA online or by phone before visiting a Disaster Recovery Center.
