(Iowa City, IA) – The Iowa baseball team continues to see some Big Ten Honorees this season as pitcher Brody Brecht has been named the Big Ten Co-Pitcher of the Week. He was named pitcher of the week alongside Michigan’s Jacob Denner.
Brecht threw in a career-high 7.2 innings against Rutgers and allowed just one hit and three walks in that contest. He was the main aspect in the Hawkeye’s sweep over Rutgers while striking out a total of 12 batters at the plate. The Ankeny native sits at 1-2 on the season and has maintained a 4.12 ERA so far this season with a total of 84 strikeouts in 48 innings pitched which averages out to 1.75 strikeouts per inning.
Currently, Brecht leads the Big Ten in strikeouts with a total of 84 and sits at eighth in the nation in total strikeouts. He also sits at third in strikeouts per nine innings and is first in the Big Ten with a total of 15.75 strikeouts.
Iowa and the Co-Big Ten Pitcher of the Week will return to action today against Milwaukee in a five-game series that opens up at 6:00 p.m. tonight.
