(Hockley, TX) – Iowa State’s women’s golf team has not one but two Big XII Women’s Golf Champions as Karisa Chul-Ak-Sorn and Liyana Durisic both are Big XII Champions. This is the first time ever in Big-XII history that teammates earned the top standing and the fourth time that they had co-champions.
Chul-Ak-Sorn was able to earn a 73 in the final round and marked three birdies on the day. The pair was able to shoot 207 over 54 holes for the lowest conference championship score in school history. This marks the fourth-lowest Big XII Championship score over the course of the conference Big XII Tournament.
Between Chul-Ak-Sorn and Durisic, they earned medalist honors for just the third and fourth time in program history and their second at the Big XII Championship. The last to win was Celia Arozamena in 2018 while before her, Shelley Finnestad was the first to do it for the Cyclones with a Championship in Bix Eight action in 1993.
Looking at the team results, Iowa State earned second place, scoring 863 as a team over three rounds. The Cyclones finished in the top two at the conference championship and was the second time in Big XII history for the Cyclones to finish in the top two. Their score of 863 was the lowest 54-hold score in the conference championship.
