(Greenfield, IA) – The Nodaway Valley Wolverines boy’s golf team was able to capture a victory yesterday, winning 182-233. This effort was led by Landon Klobnak who was the medalist with a 37 and Zach Gebbie who was the runner-up with a 44. Yesterday’s meet was an impactful one for the rest of the season given the length and difficulty of the course that impacted their game. Head Coach Joel Klobnak was happy about how both his boys and girls performed especially given the conditions.
On the girls’ side, the Wolverines were led by Ashlyn Gutierrez who shot 51 for Nodaway Valley and earned runner-up in the meet. Coach Klobnak was impressed with her strategy in terms of placing where her next shot was going to be.
While the first hit on the hole is important, the most important aspect of golf is the short game. You can get on the green in two shots, and end up three-putting at the end of the day. That is why this week, the Wolverines will be focusing on their short game, especially the putting game to prepare for competitive action next week.
Looking ahead, Nodaway Valley will be going to Griswold next Monday, April 22nd to take on the Essex and the Tigers in a competitive matchup. This course is one that utilizes every club in the bag, especially their irons making the practices this week so crucial to prepare for the short game.
Nodaway Valley will practice the rest of this week to prepare for Griswold on Monday and turn right around on Tuesday, April 23rd back to the Deer Run Golf Club to take on Martensdale-St. Marys and Central Decatur.
