(Des Moines, IA) – Drake has announced the hiring of Addison Barnes as the Bulldogs assistant volleyball coach. She will start immediately on the staff of the Bulldogs after a volleyball career at former MVC school Loyola (Chicago) University.
Barnes had a very productive career with the Ramblers, earning over 1,100 kills, 1,000 digs, and 165 blocks while in both the Atlantic-Ten and Missouri Valley Conference. After graduating from Loyola, she went to coach at her alma mater at Neenah High School in Wisconsin, the Chicago Sand Volleyball program, and also taught private lessons.
Drake Head Coach Darrin McBroom said, “She has an accomplished background in Division I volleyball having played at Loyola Chicago for five seasons. In 2019, when Loyola was a member of the Valley, she was named Freshmen of the Year. Throughout the interview process, Addison demonstrated exceptional communication skills,” McBroom added. “[That] is important in the role she will serve, and I think it will allow her to be excellent in building rapport with our student-athletes and recruits. We got a good one and I look forward to seeing how Addison influences our program and accentuates our staff.”
She is joining a Bulldogs program that earned back-to-back MVC runner-up appearances and finished this season 24-11 and 14-4 in the Missouri Valley Conference.
