(Harlan, IA)- After weather delays bumped back the first meet of the season for the Cyclones, two days later, they’re ready to start their spring season. Head Coach Chad Swanson leads the boys golf team of Harlan to their home course tonight against Denison-Schleswig starting at 4pm. The weather played a factor for every team in Southwest Iowa as they worked through preseason practices, but Harlan and Coach Swanson were still able to get quality work in.
Not all of the leading gets done by the head coach when it comes to many sports teams, and the Cyclones are no different. A large senior class makes up much of the varsity roster for Harlan including Braydon Ernst, who is set to be a four-time letter winner. The other four seniors are also big contributors to the squad, not just during meets but in practice too.
It will be the first meet of the season for the Cyclones so the pressure isn’t quite as strong as it will be later in the season but that doesn’t mean there aren’t goals to accomplish. As Coach Swanson says, “there’s no defense in golf,” so it’s a time to work on the mental side of the game and to see where you are at compared to some different competition.
The Cyclones are set to tee off from their home course to start the season so the familiarity should help with their first taste of competition this spring. The meet begins tonight at 4:00 p.m. at Harlan Golf & Country Club against Denison-Schleswig.
