Gary “Jake” Jacobson, the son of Arthur “Art” Carl Edward Jacobson and Esther Marcella Hill Jacobson passed away Thursday March 14th, 2024 at the Griswold Care Center in Griswold after fighting a long, hard battle of Parkinson’s and Heart Disease. Jake was 78 yrs, 10 months and 13 days. He is finally resting in peace.
Jake attended school at Stanton Iowa, graduating with the Class of 1963, and according to him, it was the best class to be in. After high school he attended Clarinda Community College . He had numerous jobs, such as bridge crew, Railroad crew, Budweiser Delivery man, Presto X, and Derby Station Manager. Jake served 2 years in the US ARMY as a Military Policeman at Seneca Army Depot in Romulus, New York. He was extremely proud of his military service. Jake was a member of the Legion Post #406 at Stanton before moving to Griswold Post #508.
Jake met Rosemary Brill from Geneva New York while serving his country and they married on December 7th 1968. To this union 3 children were born. After returning to Iowa, and after a couple of his smaller jobs, Jake went to work for UPS. He pulled doubles for awhile before he became the best Package Car Driver ever!! He loved his job and his customers loved him. To quote one of his customers, “When you said “Jake”, everyone in the area knew you were talking about the UPS man.”
Jakes hobby’s were few. But what he had, occupied his time. Of importance to him was finally getting his Black ’57 Chevy 210 completely gone through. Before getting sick, he enjoyed camping and fishing, riding horses, watching NASCAR races during the #3 Dale Earnhardt era, AND television. Crime shows, outdoor shows and FOX News. He loved dancing, listening to many different genres of music, drinking coffee with his friends, but mostly just loved being around his grandchildren.
He married Madonna Milne of Griswold on April 25th 1999, this would have been their 25th Anniversary year. To this union, he gained 2 Step Children.
Jake was proceeded in death by his parents and Grandson Connor Carl Jacobson.
Jake is survived by his wife Madonna; Son Todd Michael (Paula)of Creston; Daughters Kristen Lee (Tony) Thoms of Omaha and Missy Jo Jacobson (Kevin) of Griswold; Stepson Creighton (Sarah) Nelson and Stepdaughter Eve Kwiatkowski, of Griswold. And 12 Grandchildren. Evan and Isaac Jacobson; Tristan, Jace, Taya, and Kyan Thoms; McKenna and Teegan Wiechman, Kingston Farr; Britney and Alex Nelson. He left 3 sisters all from Red Oak; Ann Johnson, Becky Wright, and Sandy Wilson. Also, many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Per Jakes wishes, his Celebration of Life will be held at the East of Omaha Music Venue in Griswold on April 13th at 3pm. Friends and family are invited to attend. A private burial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the family.
The Rieken Duhn Funeral Home in Griswold is in charge of arrangements.
