(Des Moines, IA) – To add to the madness in March, a total of five players on the Drake men’s basketball team have announced they’ve entered the transfer portal. This comes after the departure of former Head Coach Darian DeVries who is now the head coach at West Virginia.
Conor Enright has announced that he is throwing his hat in the ring of the transfer portal. Enright averaged 6.9 points, 3.2 rebounds, 3.2 assists, and one steal per game this year. This was the first year that he was a routine starter for Drake while shooting over 45% from the field and will continue to keep his options open, including a possible return to Drake.
Guard Kevin Overton announced that he is entering the portal as well. As one of the Valley’s top freshmen this season, he averaged 11.3 points and 3.3 rebounds per game this season while shooting 44% from the field. Overton has been interested in following both former coach Darian DeVries and Tucker DeVries to West Virginia but has heard from eight other teams as well.
Atin Wright announced that he is entering the portal after playing just one season with the Bulldogs. He was the second-leading scorer behind Tucker DeVries who averaged 14.1 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 1.9 assists per game last season. The guard shot 45.8% from the field and shot over 40% from beyond the arc.
Another player entering the portal is Colby Garland who was one of the top Bulldogs on the hardwood this season coming off the bench. Garland averaged 5.7 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game.
Son of Darian DeVries, Tucker DeVries, has announced that he is also entering the transfer portal. He has confirmed that he will be following his father to West Virginia University after earning the Larry Bird MVC Player of the Year Award. This announcement comes a day after DeVries was scheduled to get shoulder surgery which may affect him moving forward. The MVC Player of the Year averaged a team-high 21.6 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 3.7 assists per game this season. He has just one year of eligibility remaining.
