(Audubon) U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development announced Tuesday that the Agency is investing $29,318,797 in 10 rural Iowa projects to expand business opportunities and hospital access and to support wastewater sanitation planning.
The City of Audubon received a $2,800,000 loan to build a fire station.
Audubon Fire Chief Tyler Thygesen explained that even though the bond issue put in front of voters for a new fire station did not pass, these funds are good for five years.
This project plans were to construct an 11,700-square-foot pre-engineered metal building with four apparatus bays, a workspace for staff, and equipment and supply storage areas.
Thygesen said their building was occupied by the fire department in 1975 and they have added three additions since then. He said in 1996 the “ambulance bay” was added, but in 2017 when they bought a new ambulance it did not fit in that bay so they had to shuffle some apparatuses around.
