(Ankeny) On Saturday afternoon, the State Speech Contest at Ankeny Centennial High School was abruptly stopped due to an announcement over the school’s speaker system asking everyone to evacuate the building. A parent who was present inside the building informed KSOM/KS95 News about the incident.
According to a post on the Ankeny Police Department website, the police were notified of a social media post that indicated the presence of a bomb inside Ankeny Centennial High School shortly after 2:00 pm. The High School State Speech competition was happening at the same time, and there were more than 2000 people in attendance.
As soon as officers and school personnel were notified of the threat, they took immediate action and evacuated the building. After investigating, officers determined those involved and spoke to them about the threat. It was determined that the threat was not credible. As a result, parents and students were allowed back into the building to retrieve their belongings once it was deemed safe.
