(Avoca, IA) – AHSTW has continued to wrestle well and show up great in their individual matches. The Vikings are struggling a bit in their overall team scores due to open spots in a few weight classes that have not helped them out when it comes to duals this season.
One wrestler that has started to spark this week is Nate Jorgensen. The senior was able to go over both Audubon’s and Nodaway Valley’s top wrestlers in class 190 on Tuesday as he looks ahead to tomorrow to compete in the Western Iowa Conference Tournament.
Head coach Evan Hansen is looking for his team to clean up on their little mistakes along the way to help them do things the best way possible. In his first year as head coach, he is trying to get his guys to buy into the culture that he is trying to develop at AHSTW.
On Saturday, the Vikings are going to be taking on all their conference opponents in the Western Iowa Conference Tournament at Riverside High School. AHSTW now has back-to-back Saturdays at Riverside as the Vikings were in the Riverside Tournament just last Saturday. A few Viking wrestlers performed well in their matches including Kayden Baxter as he was able to win third place over Audubon’s Alex Hansen while Blake Akers took down Rex Meeker on a fall for the fifth place match. If these two can perform just as they did last week, the Vikings will have a good chance to take a spot in the top five.
AHSTW will battle in the Western Iowa Conference Tournament on Saturday at Riverside High School at 10:00 a.m. KSOM 96.5 will provide live updates with Austin West and Zach Collins on the call, with a preview at 9:45 a.m. You can also check out the live stream of the broadcast on Western Iowa Today TV – Powered by Nishnanet where we will have every match all day long.
