Ronald A. Sandvig, age 69, of Atlantic, IA, passed away on Wednesday, December 13, 2023, at Cass Health in Atlantic, IA.
Public viewing visitation with the family present will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 16, 2023, at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Atlantic, IA. A luncheon will be held in conjunction with the visitation as well in the reception room of the Schmidt Family Funeral Home.
Arrangements are handled with the Schmidt Family Funeral Home of Atlantic. Ronald A. Sandvig, age 69, of Atlantic, IA, formerly of Rolfe, IA, passed away on Wednesday, December 13, 2023, at Cass Health in Atlantic, IA.
Ron was born on August 2, 1954, in Rolfe, IA, the son of Donald and Marvel (Cruickshank) Sandvig. He grew up in Rolfe, attending Rolf High School and graduating with the class of 1973. He then furthered his education to become a firefighter and policeman for Rolfe. On October 12, 1974, he married the love of his life, Kay Hoover, at the Presbyterian Church in Rolfe. In 1985, Ron and family moved to Atlantic. While in Atlantic, he worked for Payless Cashways, Thermogas, and 21st Century Coop. He also worked as an independent carpenter, a jack of all trades.
Ron loved to fish, camp at Lake Anita, and watch NASCAR races, especially his favorite driver, Kevin Harvick. He was also a Kansas City Chiefs fan and watched John Wayne movies. He desperately loved being with family, especially with his grandkids. He enjoyed watching them play basketball and football. Being the jack of all trades, he was often recruited to help family members with their projects. One of his latest project accomplishments was in February of 2023 when he remodeled the kitchen in his home.
Ron is survived by his wife, Kay Sandvig of Atlantic; his three daughters, Jessica Hember (Steve Wickman) of Emmetsburg, IA, Andrea Butler (Troy Young) of Atlantic, IA, Laura Sandvig (Danny Spracklin) of Atlantic, IA; grandchildren, Jacob and Kaitlyn Hember of Emmetsburg, IA, Zach and Zoey Butler, Jocelyn and Harper Young of Atlantic, IA, Aliyah, Brayden, and Cashton Sandvig of Atlantic, IA; siblings, Jerry Sandvig, James (Diana) Sandvig, and Kelly Sandvig; brothers-in-law David (Dee) Hoover; Sisters-in-law, Karen Pedersen, Jane (Doug) Coltvet, and Dawn Blair.
Ron is preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Marvel; sister, Kristy Hammer; father-in-law Kenneth Hoover, mother-in-law Dorothy Hoover; brothers-in-law Gene Pedersen and Dick Hoover.
Public viewing visitation with the family present will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 16, 2023, at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Atlantic, IA. A luncheon will be held in conjunction with the visitation in the reception room of the Schmidt Family Funeral Home. A celebration of life service will be held at a later date in Rolfe. The interment will take place at Clinton-Garfield Cemetery in Rolfe, IA.
Memorials may be directed to the Ronald Sandvig Family and will be designated at a later date in memory of him, and may be mailed to the Schmidt Family Funeral Home P.O. Box 523, Atlantic, IA 50022.
