(Atlantic) The Atlantic girl’s basketball team followed a win over Clarinda on Tuesday with a 54-25 victory over Creston on Friday night. The Trojans broke a 3-3 deadlock late in the first quarter with a 6-1 run and a 9-4 lead, followed by a 14-4 run in the second frame for a 23-8 lead at the break.
Atlantic Head Coach Dan Vargason was pleased with the effort and proud of the team’s progress shown this past week. The Trojans entered the week 1-3 and evened their record at 3-3 with the win over Creston at home.
The Trojans pushed the lead to 38-13 after three quarters. Zoey Kirchhoff knocked down a critical three-point basket, and Patyn Harter added six. They finished by outscoring the Panthers 16-12 in the final frame. Eleven players contributed offensively for the home team.
Paytn Harter had another big night on the boards. The 5’10 post player scored 13 points and snagged 12 rebounds.
The Trojans’ two guards, Zoey Kirchhoff and Makenna Schroeder, combined for fifteen points in their best performances of the season.
Harter led the team with 13 points, and Zoey Kirchhoff added nine. The Trojans also improved on their three-point shooting. Maddie Richter splashed down three long-range counters, and Jillian Saathoff, Addie Freund, and Peyton McLaren each knocked down one from beyond the arc.
Ella Turner led the Panthers with 11 points, including a trio of three-point baskets.
Atlantic (3-3) travels to Nodaway Valley on Saturday. Creston (2-3) travels to Shenandoah on Tuesday.
