(Griswold, IA) – The Griswold Tigers didn’t come out of the game last night against Stanton with a win, but rather a 66-25 loss to the Viqueens. Stanton was able to stop Griswold’s leading scorer Abby Gohlinghorst who has typically been a tough player to stop on the hardwood. Coming into the game against Stanton, she was averaging 10.5 points per game and was keeping the Tigers close in tight games.
Head coach Ryan Lockwood was impressed with the play of freshman Amanda Houser who knocked down just four points and two rebounds against Stanton, but she’s continuing to adjust to the high school game. She will be a player that’ll be more than impactful for the remainder of the season.
On the defensive side of the floor, the Tigers have started to rely on both Karly and Josie Millikan who have been the stopping points of opposing offenses. They both have not scored a lot on the floor, but they have been able to rebound and set up plays for the offense to flow.
Griswold has a few minor improvements to make, especially when it comes to the tempo on the floor. Many teams try to go with the tempo of their opponents whether that be fast or slow, which ridges up the original offensive scheme and puts teams at the forefront of confusion. Griswold needs to work on keeping their own tempo on the floor while also keep up their ball movement and their defensive pressure.
This Friday, Griswold is going to be taking on Sidney, a team that the Tigers have never beaten in the series according to GoBound as the Cowgirls lead 13-0 overall. Sidney is led in scoring by Lilly Peters who averages 13.0 points and 12.0 rebounds per game and is the only player to average a double-double and double digits. Griswold is led in scoring by Abby Gohlinghorst with 9.8 points and features no player averaging double digits. This should be a tight game this Friday night.
Griswold will travel to Sidney for their first road game of the season to take on the Cowgirls at 6:00 p.m. this Friday night.
