(Guthrie Center, IA) – The ACGC Chargers made their legacy well-known to the whole state for their play on the field this season. ACGC had their first season ever where they went 8-0 in the regular season and won the District Title. Regardless of those achievements, head coach Cody Matthewson is proud of his athletes, but knows that he and they want more.
ACGC is graduating five seniors after this successful season. Anthony Solorzano, Nate Chance, Tegan Slaybaugh, Treyton Schneider, and Payton Jacobe are all graduating in May of next year. Solorzano rushed for 1,010 yards and nine touchdowns this season which is third on the Chargers. Chance also helped out with 569 yards rushing this season. Tegan led the Chargers in tackles with 68 and right behind him was Jacobe with 56 tackles and six sacks this season, the most sacks for the Chargers.
Looking at the season overall, head coach Cody Matthewson realizes that the expectation is not just going to the UNI-Dome, but going to the State Championship and winning. This Charger team brings back a lot of returners for next season after having this season with just 70 total yards of offense returning. He said that they are already excited to see what is next for the Chargers this upcoming season.
The Chargers have already started getting at the weight room as they started this Monday. As there are many multisport athletes, coach Matthewson is going to continue to support those kids through their other sports and see where those sports take them.
In the meantime, coach Matthewson is going to be helping get his players ready in the weight room while also preparing for the upcoming Track and Field season.
