(Atlantic) On Thursday, DNR representatives and Atlantic Parks and Recreation partnered with Optimal Aquafeed to stock approximately 250 rainbow trout in the small pond at the Schildberg Recreation Area.
DNR Fisheries Biologist Bryan Hayes says this is part of an Urban Trout Stocking Program the DNR started nearly two decades ago.
Hayes says the DNR hauls trout to around 18 to 20 locations around the state in urban areas twice a year in the fall, winter, or sometimes in the spring. These areas stretch from Davenport, Des Moines, and Council Bluffs.
The DNR also ties in the trout program with kids’ events. The DNR provides prizes at these kid’s events to a larger crowd and introduces young people to fishing.
