(Creston) On Saturday, the Creston football team takes the field in a Class 3A semifinal in the Dome in Cedar Falls against Bishop Heelan. The Panthers are (11-0), and Bishop Heelan is (10-1).
Creston rallied from a 19-0 deficit to defeat Webster City 50-27 in the quarterfinals. Panthers Head Coach Brian Morrison says they didn’t make any adjustments but placed their players in the correct positions to make plays.
Coach Morrison says it has been a fun year and is glad they get another week of practice. He says four teams are remaining, and he is excited to be one of them. Next up is Bishop Heelan. Morrison describes them as big kids that move fast.
Bishop, Heelan’s quarterback Quin Olsen has passed for 1,132 yards’ thrown 20 touchdown passes, and two interceptions. The senior also leads the rushing attack with 904 yards rushing, for an average of 7.7 yards per carry.
The Panthers also bring an explosive offense to the game, with 2,821 yards passing and 2,308 yards rushing. The Panther’s come-from-behind victory over Webster City indicates this potent Creston offense.
Creston enters the semifinals with the second-highest touchdowns with 64. Bishop Heelan is fourth with 55. The Panthers are second highest in Class 3A with 34 passing touchdowns. Bishop Heelan is fourth in 3A in rushing touchdowns with 34. The Panthers top the class in all-purpose yards with 5,611, first in 3A in passing and receiving yards with 2,821. Heelan is fourth in rushing yards with 2,593.
Both teams are tied for second in Class 3A with 15 interceptions.
The game kicks off at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday.
