(Monticello, IA) The Iowa Department of Public Safety, on behalf of the Monticello Police Department, released information about an alleged shooting at the Fareway Meat and Grocery Store.
On Tuesday, November 7, at around 7:29 a.m., Monticello Police were dispatched to the Fareway Meat and Grocery Store at 420 North Farley Street for the report of a man that has been shot. When they arrived, they found 48-year-old Aaron McAtee with a gunshot wound. The man was transported to the hospital, where he died.
Authorities have arrested a man for the alleged shooting. The suspect is identified as 38-year-old Nathan Russell.
A deputy from Delaware County found Russell in a town north of Monticello and tried to arrest him before shooting Russell, who failed to comply. The Monticello Police Department says the incident seems to be a random act of violence.
