(Atlantic, IA) – Atlantic cross-country senior Alex Sonntag officially signed on to become a member of Simpson College for the 2024-25 cross-country season. Sonntag officially signed on Wednesday during a sign-on event held at Atlantic High School.
Sonntag talked about what he is looking forward to in the next four years of his cross-country career. The senior said that he may not have met his goals this season but looks to achieve those goals with an additional four years down the line.
Alex is joining a very successful Storm program, one that has been ranked in the top ten in the USTFCCCA Midwest Regional Rankings at seventh place overall. Head coach Heath Moenck has also led a successful team in the American Rivers Conference as his men’s team finished in fourth place in the Championship meet. Sonntag will be surrounded by a lot of talent to help him further his cross-country career.
Head coach Dan Vargason said that regardless of Alex not reaching his personal goals, he reached the goals set by the team. Alex not only was a leader with the team this season but continued to keep the sport fun and grew over the course of the year.
Over the course of the last four years, Sonntag has continued to come a long way for Atlantic. Alex’s work ethic and leadership will help him at the college level as coach Vargason is excited to follow the senior over the course of his collegiate career.
Before Alex runs at Simpson College, he has to train for this upcoming track and field season as he prepares for the individual mid-distance events. He is planning to work this offseason on training to build up for the upcoming track season.
