(Fort Dodge, IA) – The Class 3A cross-country boys champions are the Gilbert Tigers with a total of 57 points. The Tigers featured two runners in the top ten in the meet including the 8th place finisher Logan Bleich at 15:55.6 and Jacob Tallman in ninth at 15:59.5. Finishing in first was Pella’s Canaan Dunham at 15:18.5 for his personal best while also featuring Nathan Vander Waal in third with his personal best at 15:39.8. Micah Rees of Washington finished in fourth at 15:47.9 as the senior finishes his cross-country career in the top five. Andrew Smith and Bryant Keller also notched their way into the top ten for Glenwood. Smith finished in fifth place at 15:51.2 and Keller finished in 10th at 16:05.0. Quentin Nauman finished in sixth at 15:52.2 for Epworth Western Dubuque. Tommy Tyynismaa of South Tama County finished in seventh, less than a second behind Nauman at 15:53.2 for his personal best.
Lewis Central had the second-placed runner Ethan Eichhorn at 15:25.5. He came off to a very fast pace in the race as he was the defending champion from his junior year. Eichhorn finished seven seconds slower in this championship when compared to the past meet but still finished in second place and can go off his season of success. Tom Robinson was in Fort Dodge as he talked to the All-State runner Ethan Eichhorn.
Atlantic’s Bennett Whetstone finished 103rd overall in the race as the senior earned his first state qualification and was able to go out and compete to the best of his ability given the weather conditions at 17:37.5. Coach Dan Vargason was proud of Whetstone as well as Claire Pellett (pictured below) for making it this far in the season to Fort Dodge.
The other local runners include Kevin Cots of Lewis Central at 16:22.1 in 17th, Richard Selken in 40th at 16:56.5, Jackson Cox in 91st place at 17:29.5, and Jackson’s brother Haidyn Cox in 123rd at 18:07.2. Kuemper Catholic had Ryan North finish in 36th at 16:52.1 and Jacob Greving in 46th at 17:01.2. You can find all the final results right here.
