(Avoca, IA) – The AHSTW Vikings earned a 56-12 win over Red Oak last week as they have now won back-to-back games. Coach Harris has been proud of his team rebounding back into action. The Vikings are looking to continue using this momentum to carry them into the postseason.
Camden Soukup passed for 144 yards and four touchdowns in the last game against Red Oak. Those four touchdowns are a season-high for the junior as his previous high was three against Riverside. Luke Sternberg has been the impact in the rushing game with 108 yards on 12 carries for two touchdowns. If these two are rolling, it will be hard for Shenandoah to stay close with the Vikings.
The defense has been impactful in these last two games as they shut out Missouri Valley and only allowed 12 points against Red Oak. Blake Akers had nine tackles in the last game as the junior now has a team-leading 51 tackles and two sacks this season. The defensive captain senior Nick Denning had two interceptions as he leads the team with four total interceptions. Denning is also second on the team in tackles with 47 total tackles this season.
AHSTW is taking on a Shenandoah that fell to Treynor 40-9 last week. The Vikings also have lost to Treynor this season but in a much tighter 26-25 loss. Shenandoah is led by Jade Spangler in the throwing and rushing game. The senior has 991 passing yards for nine touchdowns and seven interceptions while rushing for 431 yards and seven touchdowns. Shenandoah also relies upon Jayden Dickerson in the running game as he has 359 yards and two touchdowns. AHSTW won’t have things easy in week eight.
Coach Harris knows that he has a team that nobody will want to face in the postseason as they have only gotten better as the weeks progressed.
AHSTW will travel to Shenandoah to take on the Mustangs tonight with a kickoff at 7:00 p.m.
