(Des Moines) Federal law enforcement escorted several protestors out of the Neal Smith Federal Building following the conclusion of a pro-Palestinian rally.
Hosted by the Catholic Peace Ministry and the Des Moines chapter of the Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom, the rally aimed to persuade Iowa’s senators to halt aid to Israel.
Inside the building, a group, including Luke Clausen, refused to leave Senator Joni Ernst and Senator Chuck Grassley’s offices after closing hours, resulting in their detainment and citation for disturbing the peace.
While outside, demonstrators chanted and held signs, demanding an end to aid for Israel. Grassley’s office reaffirmed support for Israel’s defense against Hamas, denouncing claims of genocide as inappropriate and incorrect.
