(Avoca, IA) – AHSTW hosts Audubon for their last match tonight before the beginning of the Western Iowa Conference Volleyball Tournament. This match against Audubon will be the first time that these two teams have met since 2022 when the Wheelers beat the Vikings 3-0.
AHSTW is coming off back-to-back wins over both Underwood (3-2) and IKM-Manning (3-0). The Lady Vikes (9-18) are led by Delaney Goshorn with 183 kills, leads in blocks with 42, and is second on the team in serving aces with 19 on the season. Lillian Scott leads the team in aces with 25 and is third on the team in kills with 62. Saydi Paulsen leads the team in digs with 201 and is second in kills with 74. Three players on this Lady Vikes team have over 100 assists with Lauren Yates (155), Kendra Hansen (125), and Halle Goodman (105) as they have all been key components to the setting game this season.
This Lady Vikes team has a lot of talent across the board, but what puts them behind other teams is their serving. AHSTW is serving just 88% this season and Audubon is right with them at an even lower 86%. Most teams strive for a 90% serving percentage, but the serving game could impact the match tonight. Audubon is leading in kills per set with 8.4 compared to AHSTW as they are averaging just 6.8 kills per set.
Audubon is coming off a loss to Ankeny Christian from the Madrid High School Volleyball Invitational last Saturday. The Wheelers (15-9) are led in kills by Mattie Nielsen with 220 and in digs with 154. Addie Hocker leads the team in assists with 418 on the season as the Wheelers rely on her as their primary setter while she also dominates in the serving game with 45 total aces on the season. Harlow Miller leads the team in blocks with 35 and has 24 solo blocks to top off the stat. Anna Larsen is right behind Hocker in aces with 43 on the season while she is second on the team in digs with 135.
Audubon and AHSTW will face off tonight in Avoca with the first serve at 7:30 p.m. KSOM 96.5 will be live with video and audio coverage featuring Zach Collins and Austin West on the call with a pregame show at 7:15 p.m.
