(Jefferson) Greene County quarterback Gabe Ebersole scored two touchdowns and threw for another to lead the Rams to a 41-6 win over Atlantic at Jefferson on Friday.
Trey Schilling took the handoff and raced 28 yards to paydirt for Greene County less than two minutes into the first quarter. Nathan Behne kicked a 24-yard field goal, and Nick Stream bolted into the end zone from six yards out with 1:54 left in the first stanza to lead Atlantic 17-0 at the quarter.
Atlantic defense stiffened in the second -quarter and held the Rams in check until the 3:14 mark in the second quarter when Ebersole broke loose on a 14-yard run and a 24-0 lead after the PAT.
The Trojans cranked up the offense late in the second quarter. Sophomore quarterback Zayden Parker fired a 31-yard pass to Xavier Darrow, setting up a Gavin McLaren one-yard touchdown. The extra point failed, and the Trojans trailed Greene County 24-6 at the break.
Greene County shut out the Trojans in the second half and countered with 17 points to build the 41-6 lead. Ebersole connected with Jac Hansen on a 43-yard touchdown, Behne booted a 39-yard field goal, and Ebersole capped off the scoring late in the third frame with a 14-yard run.
The Rams gained 136 yards through the air, led by Jac Hansen’s four catches for 88 yards and a touchdown. The home team rushed for 156 yards, led by Nick Stream’s 13 carries for 55 yards. Quarterback Gabe Ebersole was 8-13 passing for 136 yards and two touchdowns. Christopher Daughtery led the team defensively with 8.5 tackles and one tackle for loss.
Atlantic rushed the ball for 82 yards and passed for 75 yards. Zayden Parker was 3-for-10 for 32 yards, and Tristen Hayes came in late in the game and completed two of six passes for 46 yards. Gavin McLaren carried the ball eight times for 59 yards. Jarrett Hansen caught one pass for 40 yards, and Darrow had one catch for 31. The Trojans were hampered by turnovers, including four fumbles and three interceptions.
Greene County, 2-1 travel to Saydel next Friday night. Atlantic, 1-2, hosts Winterset.
