(Des Moines) A special counsel to investigate charges against Hunter Biden, son of President Joe Biden, has been appointed. Iowa Republican Senator Chuck Grassley is questioning the appointment of Delaware U.S. Attorney David Weiss by the Department of Justice.
Grassley said it was odd to appoint Weiss since Weiss ran the office that initially prosecuted Hunter Biden for tax and gun charges. Calls for a special counsel grew after a plea agreement between Biden and Weiss’ federal prosecutors fell apart in court as he was set to plead guilty. Republicans have accused the Justice Department of giving Hunter preferential treatment in the case by offering him a “sweetheart deal.”
