(Guthrie Co) A Texas man was arrested following a fiery accident in Guthrie County early Friday morning.
The Guthrie County Sheriff’s Office says at approximately 1:04 a.m., Coon Rapids Fire was dispatched for a fire near Whiterock Conservancy around 140th Street and Fig Avenue. Fire crews arrived and were able to locate the source of the fire in a ravine on the west end of a field north of 140th Street and in between Fig and Dogwood Avenue. When fire crews arrived, no one was around the vehicle, but they had later located the male, identified as 26-year-old Owen Carpenter of Tuscola, Texas, approximately 100 yards west of the vehicle in a fence row. Carpenter was unresponsive, but breathing, and appeared intoxicated. Deputies detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from Carpenter as fire crews were able to wake him up. Crews transported Carpenter back to the intersection to an awaiting ambulance. Carpenter was cleared by medical staff and he signed a refusal to go to a hospital.
The 2019 Nissan Frontier had burned completely. While surveilling the scene, Deputies observed what appeared to be a magazine to a weapon along with a burned handgun sitting in what would have been the center console of the vehicle. Carpenter submitted a breath specimen for a P.B.T, which showed a B.A.C. above the legal limit. He was placed under arrest. Upon arrival at the Guthrie County Jail, Carpenter agreed to submit another breath specimen for chemical testing, which showed a B.A.C. of 0.221%.
Carpenter was charged with Operating While Under the Influence 1st Offense, Dominion/Control of Firearm/Offensive Weapon by a Felon, and Possession or Carrying of Dangerous Weapons While Under the Influence.
