Graveside services for 93-year-old Donald “LeRoy” Hansen, of Exira will be held on Friday, July 21, 2023 at the Oak Hill Cemetery West of Brayton. The Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Atlantic is in charge of the professional arrangements.
Donald “LeRoy” Hansen, age 93, of Exira, IA, passed away on Saturday, July 15, 2023, at Salem Lutheran Homes in Elk Horn, IA.
LeRoy was born in Osage, Iowa, the son of Sophus and Sara (Gross) Hansen. Growing up, he attended country schools and later enrolled in the Exira Community Schools. In 1952, LeRoy married Dorothy Frederick. Five boys were born into this union: Randy, Robert, Rick, Roger, and Rodney. Later, Dorothy and LeRoy were divorced. LeRoy served ten years in the Iowa National Guard. To many, he was quite a plumber and electrician. Also, being a farmer, LeRoy could and would fix anything. He was a collector of many antiques. LeRoy was a happy man, and you often could see him at his home, under his shade tree in his iron chair, enjoying the outdoors.
LeRoy is preceded in death by his parents, Sophus, and Sara; son Randy; daughters-in-law, Nancy Hansen, and Rosmarie Hansen.
LeRoy is survived by his sons Robert (Lisa) Hansen of Atlantic, IA, Rick (Janet) Hansen of Audubon, IA, Roger (Brenda) Hansen of Collins, IA, and Rodney (Nancy) Hansen of Audubon, IA; daughter-in-law Kathy Hansen of Anita, IA; Grandchildren, Michael (special friend Desiree) Hansen, Jessie (Jaz) Goodwin, Jay (Tracie) Jensen, Jason (Teri) Jensen, Stephanie Hansen, Raychelle (Senior Chief USN Jason) Thelen, Rebekah (Bart) Ver Mulm, Brandon (special friend Brianna Lux), Garrett Hansen; Great-grandchildren, Tyler Jensen, Jordan Jensen, Jennifer Jensen, Geena Jensen, Kyle Jensen, Braelyn Herron, Kasey Hertz, Lexi Hertz, Jursie Thelen, Kaylie Thelen, Lillie Thelen, Chase Ver Mulm, Colt Ver Mulm, Brynn Ver Mulm.
