(Griswold) Through two scoreless innings, the Tigers win it big in the 3rd, scoring all of their runs in the 3rd inning. The Wolverines switched out pitchers changing out starting pitcher Miah Urban and putting in relief pitcher Kandra Laumann who could not get the Wolverines back on track but rather got the Tigers on a streak.
Griswold was not able to score in the first inning leaving runners on first and third and in the second inning, the Tigers left Abby Gohlinghorst on second base unable to score. The third inning was the inning that the Wolverines were not able to add anything on the board themselves, with only one single and left a runner stranded on first base. In the bottom of the third, the Tigers came out with patience as the Tigers were able to have six batters walk to score four runs in the ballgame due to a passed ball that allowed McKenna Askeland to score. Following Askeland is where the bases started rolling as Dakota Reynolds and Karly Millikan walked to first and then the bats started rolling.
For the first hit of the inning, a single was knocked into center by Abby Gololinghorst who knocked in another RBI followed up by Addison Adams who earned two RBIs on her deep single out toward left-center field. After that, it was all the Tiger’s ballgame as they went on to score 12 runs in the 3rd inning to take the ballgame and move on to the next round to battle against Essex. The Tigers did take some time to get the bats going but were patient overall to get the results that they needed most.
Griswold was led overall in the pitching department by the work of Karly Millikan who struck out 6 batters and gave up only one hit in the ballgame. She also battled it out at the plate, going 1-2 in the game with a single and earned a walk. MaKenna Askeland also helped out at the plate going 1-2 with a single and was able to score on her walk in the second at-bat and a single in her other at-bat.
Coach Rossell was proud of her team’s performance overall in the matchup as even though it took until the third inning to get off the starting line, she recognized her team’s plate patience.
Griswold will play on Friday against Essex at 7 pm at Griswold High School.
