(Exira) The Wheelers (16-8) take on the Spartans (20-3) in softball action tonight as they match up at Kimballton Lloyd Petersen Park at 5 pm this evening. This will be the first matchup this year between Audubon and Exira-EHK.
Audubon won their last game against Tri-Center 7-3 as Alexis Obermeier pitched the entire contest, giving up seven hits and three runs in seven innings of play. Michelle Brooks went 3-4 in the last game with three singles and earned two RBIs in the game. The Wheelers added on the board with the performance both offensively and defensively of Kali Irlmeier who went 2-4 in the game with two doubles and knocked in two RBIs. She also played an amazing game defensively at first base scooping up every ball in the dirt. Head coach of the Wheelers, Eric Borkowski, looks to be more consistent coming into this matchup with Exira-EHK as they scored 6 of their 7 runs in the first two innings of action.
Coach Borkowski was already looking ahead after the last game of action as he was definitely looking to change the aspect of hitting for Audubon in this game against the Spartans.
Exira-EHK beat Boyer Valley in their last game 16-3 as two eighth graders of Taryn Petersen and Riley Miller pitched the entire contest, as Miller ended up with the win. Petersen pitched in three innings giving up two hits and two earned runs. Miller pitched in three innings of action as she gave up just one run and four hits in the competition to Boyer Valley. Leading on the offensive end for the Spartans was Gemini Goodwin who went 2-3 in the ballgame with a single and a home run knocking in three runs in the game. Hannah Nelson was just right behind Goodwin also going 2-3 in the game and knocked in one RBI and earned two singles. Quinn Grubbs hit 2-4 in the game with a single and a double with two RBIs in the contest.
The winner of this competition will go on to play the winner of the Woodbine and Riverside matchup taking place tonight at 7 pm and will play at Kimballton Lloyd Petersen Park in the Regional Semi-Final game on Friday, July 7th at 7 pm.
