(Griswold) Griswold split at their home softball tournament on Saturday. The Tigers defeated Exira-EHK, 4-1, and fell short to Mount Ayr, 7-5.
In the first game, Makenna Askeland sparked the offense in the first inning with a two-run homer. Karly Millikan and McKenna Wiechman hit doubles, and Dakota Reynolds and Addison Adams each had singles. Millikan had one RBI. Karly Millikan pitched the win, striking out 11, and scattered eight hits over seven innings.
Mount Ayr handed the Tigers a 7-5 loss in the second game. Despite the outcome, McKenna Wiechman’s performance at the plate was one of the bright spots. The sophomore hit her 100th career hit while going three-for-four at the plate with a double and two singles. Makenna Askeland airlifted her second home run of the day. Whitney Pennock, Karly Millikan, and Dakota Reynolds each added singles. Karly Millikan was in the circle for the Tigers, striking out seven while scattering eight hits over seven innings and allowing three earned runs.
The Tigers carry an 18-1 record into Monday’s game at Fremont-Mills.
