(Griswold) Exira/EHK scored 19 runs on 21 hits in the second game on Saturday at the Griswold softball tournament. The Spartans held an 8-5 lead through four innings, followed by two runs in the sixth and nine more in the top of the seventh to secure the 19-8 win over Mount Ayr.
Riley Miller led the way going 5-5 at the plate with four RBI. Quinn Grubbs added to the cause with four hits and three RBI. Shay Burmeister was two for five with three runs batted in. Taryn Petersen, Hannah Nelson, and Hailey Berns each belted two hits. Brooklyn Flathers, Taryn Petersen, and Riley Miller shared the pitching duties for the Spartans with a combined allowance of eight runs (seven earned), eight strikeouts and ten walks.
Griswold downed Exira/EHK in the first game 4-1. Grubbs, Miller, and Fahn drilled two hits. Gemini Godwin stroked one hit and drove in the Spartans’ run in the top of the fifth inning. Taryn Petersen added a single.
The Spartans travel to Woodbine on Monday for a 5:30 p.m. start.
