(USDA) Corn producers took advantage of the warm and dry conditions this past week across much of the corn belt with Missouri gaining the most ground, according to the latest USDA NASS crop progress report released on Monday. As of Sunday, April 16, eight percent of the nation’s corn crop is in the ground. Three percentage points ahead of the five-year average.
Missouri farmers have planted 30 percent of their corn crop to date, three percentage points above the five-year average. Illinois reached ten percent planted, and Iowa is at seven percent complete. Illinois jumped ahead by 9 percentage points to reach 10% complete, ahead of the state average of three percent. Iowa’s corn planted reached seven percent, six percent ahead of the five-year average.
Four percent of the nation’s soybeans have been planted with Illinois leading the way with four percent complete, and Iowa is at three percent planted.
