(Des Moines) A Flood Watch will be in effect beginning at 7 a.m. Monday and continuing through Tuesday morning across portions of southwestern, central, and northeastern Iowa.
The National Weather Service says excessive rainfall could produce flash flooding, with rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying or flood-prone areas potentially affected.
Several rounds of showers and thunderstorms are expected from Monday morning through Monday night. While rainfall totals may remain modest in some locations, pockets of heavier rain could result in flooding, particularly in areas that receive repeated rounds of storms.
Residents in areas prone to flooding should remain alert to changing weather conditions and be prepared for rapidly rising water.
Forecasters are also watching the potential for additional rounds of heavy rainfall beginning Tuesday and continuing later in the week. Depending on rainfall amounts and conditions, the current Flood Watch could be extended or followed by additional flood watches.

Never drive or walk through flooded roadways. Turn around and find an alternate route if water covers the road.
