(Atlantic) Atlantic Parks and Recreation Director Wyatt Adderton provided an update to Park Board Monday evening on the Sunnyside Pool building painting, waterslide and mural projects.
Adderton said he hopes the slide will be installed before the pool opens. ACCO will be filling the pool on May 1st and the plan is to open the pool on Memorial Day.
Jenna Brownlee was selected to do the mural project on the back of the pumphouse building on the corner of 10th and Sunnyside Lane. Brownlee is scheduled to complete the work May 1 through the 5th. Tom Berry was offered the opportunity to paint all of the pool buildings. He will also begin painting the first of May.
Adderton also reported that the new raised garden beds are being put in at Mollett Park. There are 12 beds available for lease, three are already called for. Leasing applications are available on the city’s website and on the Atlantic Parks and Recreation Facebook page.
Other items noted at Mondays meeting:
The Sunnyside Park Party is set for July 8th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The road between Kiddie Korral and the Bandshell will be closed for the event. The next planning meeting for the event will be held May 11th at 9:00 a.m. at the First Church of Christ.
There are plans to order playground equipment for Harl Holt Park. Adderton said the only downside is the equipment will probably not arrive until fall.
Assistant Parks and Recreation Director Jeff Christensen also mentioned that they have already had some vandalism in the City Park bathrooms; a soap dispenser was broken. Wyatt Adderton said this next fiscal year they have some money set aside for some tech upgrades, so one of the things they have discussed is looking into more security for the parks.
