(Massena) Earlier this week SW Valley school officials announced their intention to branch away from the SWAT Valkyrie girls wrestling program.
While SWAT coach Tiffany South is sad to see them go, she does admit that the five school partnership was never intended to be a long term setup. “The end game for us was to build the program and get enough girls out so that we as individual schools can separate out. I really didn’t think the end game would come so fast for SW Valley, but it goes to show that we had a very successful year.”
With that said, it was tough news to take. “Very saddening for me because I feel like I’m losing a part of my family. We are there to support the Timberwolf girls wrestlers just as much as if they were on our own SWAT team. As the sport grows it is going to continue to progress. Ultimately I have to keep that in our mind that the end game was to grow this so each school can have their own individual team.”
SWAT plans to move four with the four remaining schools CAM, Atlantic, Griswold, and Nodaway Valley.
