(Manning) Voters in the IKM-Manning school district have given the go-ahead for a $7.9 million tax revenue bond referendum.
1,146 voted yes and 463 said no. This will have no financial impact on taxpayers. “It was amazing the support that we got.” Superintendent Trevor Miller says, “I really appreciate everyone going out and all the hard work everyone has been doing with it to get it to go through. So now we will be able to move forward and do what’s best for our students.”
Superintendent Trevor Miller calls it a big step forward for the district. “This is the first time for a revenue bond. The prior two that had failed was a general obligation bond. This one will use SAVE dollars so there will be no impact on the property tax rate. We went a different route this time and this time it passed. That’s really good for our district. We’ve been trying to do facilities planning since I’ve been there for the last five years. We really had a plan and finally got it to go through. It was really great to see for our students.”
Miller says this will help cover the costs of a new multi-purpose/gym, new locker rooms, new expansion of spark/fire which is part of the STEM program. “We have a student ran business that has been expanding. We keep getting additional grants. Our students do a great job. They do t-shirts, engraving, embroidery, it’s really going to have a room that’s set up correctly. Students can be in one large location. It will get our student future ready for career opportunities and life after high school.”
The district also looks to add a collaborative space where teachers and students can work in small groups.
