(Atlantic) Thirty-four student-athletes turned out for preseason practice for the Atlantic girl’s track team that returns a solid nucleus of performers. Head Coach Matt Mullenix says this is the largest roster in his five years of coaching Atlantic girls’ track.
Coach Mullenix says, in general, the team’s strength is leadership.
All four members return from the fourth-place Class 3A 4×400 Meter Relay team that ran a season’s best 4:04.04. Coach Mullenix says the sprinters and middle distance are where they will get the job done. He has seen a lot of improvement within this group and is confident in getting better daily.’
Sixteen letter-winners return to the squad this season. The team comprises seven seniors, eight juniors, nine sophomores, and ten first-year students.
The first competition is an Indoor Meet at Ames on Thursday.
