(Guthrie Co) Two people were injured in a truck vs FedEx van accident in Guthrie County last week.
The Guthrie County Sheriff’s Office says the accident happened at 1:00 p.m. on February 8th on Highway 25. 45-year-old Joel Brink, of Ames, was driving a 2019 Chevrolet Express FedEx van southbound on Highway 25, approaching the intersection with 120th Street. Brink slowed and signaled his intention to turn left onto 120th Street and was waiting for a northbound semi to pass. 22-year-old Meghan McBride, of Ankeny, was driving a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado southbound on Highway 25 and failed to observe the FedEx van had slowed. McBride rear-ended the van with significant force, causing the van to be propelled into the southeast ditch where it overturned onto the driver’s side. McBride’s pickup went into the southwest corner of the intersection and struck the ditch.
McBride said she did not see the FedEx van because she was checking a message on her watch. McBride suffered a severe lower extremity injury and was transported to Methodist Hospital in Des Moines by Panora EMS. Brink was transported to the Guthrie County Hospital by Panora EMS with suspected minor injuries.
