(Des Moines) Iowa House Representative Tom Moore discusses Senate File 181, or the Property Tax Rollback Calculation Fix bill, that fixes an error in the interpretations of past property tax bills.
Moore said the House Ways and Means committee passed a bill so it would not hurt the property taxpayer, however, this created a problem for local governments who already started setting their budgets for the next fiscal year. To address this concern, the Senate amended the original language of the bill to give local governments an extra month to set their budgets.
In other news, Tom Moore said this week, the Government Oversight committee brought in five Iowa moms to share their experience challenging age-inappropriate books in their child’s school library or curriculum. This isn’t about banning books or the LGBTQ community, but to ensure sexually explicit materials aren’t available in public schools without parental knowledge and consent.
