(Atlantic) Red Oak rallied to defeat Atlantic 77-74 in overtime at Atlantic on Tuesday.
Max DeVries had a big night for the Tigers. The junior scored 34 points to lead all scorers. Hunter Gilleland scored 18, and Jack Kling added 15 for the Tigers. Colton Rasmussen led Atlantic with 27 points, and Jackson McLaren finished with 18.
The Trojans tied the game at 19-19 in the second quarter, went on a roll, outscoring the Tigers 19-9, and carried a 38-29 lead at the break. Rasmussen, Carter Pellett, and Ryder Burke splashed down three-point shots, and Jackson McLaren added to the run with nine points.
The second half was a different story. Red Oak came out and began chipping away at the lead. DeVries led the charge with ten third-quarter points, Jack Kling added seven, and the visitors inched back within four points, 52-48, at the end of three quarters. The fourth quarter was a nail-biter with seven lead changes and three ties. Max DeVries free throw tied the game at 68-68, and eventually overtime.
The ebbs and flows continued in overtime with four lead changes. Colton Rasmussen scored to give the home team a 72-70 advantage, but the Tigers bounced back, outscoring Atlantic 7-4 down the stretch to notch the victory.
The (5-8) Tigers take a three-game winning streak to Glenwood on Thursday. The (4-9) Trojans host Class 1A number #1 ranked Grand View Christian on Thursday.
