Funeral Services for 79-year-old Merlin Henry Rasmussen will be held on Wednesday, January 18, 2023, at 2:00 PM at the Griswold Central Church of Christ. Visitation with the family will take place one hour prior to the funeral service. Interment will be held at a later date in Pilot Grove Cemetery. Rieken Duhn Funeral Home in Atlantic is assisting the family.
Merlin Henry Rasmussen, the son of Henry Edward and Pauline Ruth (Karwal) Rasmussen, was born on June 11, 1943, in Creston, IA. Merlin died January 11, 2023, at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak, IA, at the age of 79 years and 7 months.
While growing up, Merlin lived near Corning and then in Council Bluffs, before graduating with the last class from Elliott High School in 1962. After graduating, he served his country in the United States Air Force. After being discharged he returned home where he began farming with his father. On September 4, 1982, he was united in marriage to Vivian McKee at the Pilot Grove Church. Merlin continued to farm and drove a truck. Most recently he worked for Adams Farms driving a truck. Merlin retired three years ago. Merlin remained at home until the time of his death.
Merlin was a member of the Griswold Central Church of Christ. He had been a trustee for Pilot Grove Township and was past president of the Montgomery County Pork Producers. He enjoyed fishing, making bird houses, and collecting belt buckles.
Merlin is preceded in death by his parents, and his brother Dennis.
He is survived by his wife Vivian Rasmussen of Red Oak, IA; his children: Lorrie Moore and husband Mike of Casper, WY, Tammy Post and husband Joe of Casper, WY, Tracey Rasmussen of Casper, WY, and Dawn Miller and husband Dan of Loveland, CO; his grandchildren: Madison Moore, Paul Rivera Jr. and wife Addy, Chelsey Rhoades and husband Dustin, Demi Navarrete and husband Sergio, Triston Rasmussen, Dawson Rasmussen, Samuel Miller and wife Faith, Elijah Miller, Renah Miller, Seth Miller, and Ty Post; his great grandchildren: Reya, Peyson, Emberly, Gabi, Mila, and Emma; his siblings: Ronald Rasmussen and wife Linda of Elliott, IA, Diane Adams of Shenandoah, IA, and Denise Wilson of Red Oak, IA; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
