(Oakland) Riverside wrestling has to replace a pair of multi-time state qualifiers including state finalist Jace Rose.
Coach Casey Conover admits they’ll have a young group, but they do have some ability. “Two returning state qualifiers. They were freshmen last year. DJ Bramman was at 106 and Taven Moore was at 132. They’ll be leading it. Jett Rose was a district qualifier last year at 138 so he’ll be another solid returner for us. We look at those three guys coming back and being very, very strong.”
They are excited to get back into the swing of things. “Get back to the mat, get back to wrestling. Get the rust knocked off some of the kids. We have quite a few young kids, so we are really focusing on technique.”
Coach Conover identifies some prospects to fill a few key spots. “Austyn Fisher who could be our only senior out. He’s been in and out of the varsity lineup the last four years. Kaeden Pleas had a good start to the year and then got injured last year. We have some really young and talented sophomore kids. AC Roller is with Riverside and has some big things there. Caden Forristall will be up in the upper weights and has a lot of promise.”
They’ve done their best, schedule wise, to set their athletes up for success. “We have a very tough schedule. It’s nice to have that. It gets us ready for districts.”
Coach Conover reports they have about 20 kids out, but most are underclassmen.
