(Griswold) Griswold’s new head girls basketball coach says there is a lot of excitement surrounding the upcoming season.
The Tigers have a lot of returning players, but will still be very young. Ryan Lockwood ascends from the assistant role the past couple of seasons. “We have four seniors that are going to be returning. Two of which with Emma Mundorf and McKenna Wiechman that have seen starting time and varsity minutes most of their careers. Maddie Main will be back and she’s seen a lot of varsity time the last couple of years. We also have Bailey Baucom back as a senior after limited time last year with some injuries.”
The sophomore class features some returning talent. “A group of six sophomore that are returning. Almost all have varsity experience from last year. It’s exciting to have some youth that has some time on the court.”
Teamwork and having fun are the big priorities for the group this season. “We are going to be all together and all pulling in one direction. We’ll be really focusing on discipline and focus on the small details.” Lockwood says, “We are trying to bring the fun back in the game of basketball. We have to realize that it’s a game about having fun. When you do that you start doing good things.”
They have 13 girls on the roster. McKenna Wiechman averaged a team high 9.5 points per game last season.
