(Council Bluffs) It’s a regular season rematch between #5 Carlisle and top ranked Lewis Central Thursday afternoon in a Class 4A state semifinal.
The Titans downed the Wildcats 28-21 in Week 2. LC carries a 20 game win streak into the contest. The defending champs have ousted LeMars 57-7 and Glenwood 47-24 in their path to Cedar Falls. LC’s last seven victories have all been by 30 points or more.
Carlisle has playoff wins against Newton, 48-28, and #4 Iowa City Liberty, 56-28. The Wildcats posted 514 rushing yards in their quarterfinal win. Jack Laughlin ran 34 times for 270 yards and five TD’s while Jes Krcil had 33 attempts for 243 yards and three touchdowns. Their only loss on the season was to Lewis Central.
Braylon Kammrad has 2,403 passing yards with 29 touchdowns and two interceptions to lead Lewis Central’s offense. Running back Jonathan Humpal is averaging 7.1 yards per carry and has 19 touchdowns. Curtis Witte has a team best 43 catches for 845 yards and ten scores.
Carlisle has a 10-19 all-time playoff record in 19 appearances. They’ve never advanced to the state finals. Their only previous semifinal appearance came in 2007.
Lewis Central was a 35-10 winner of Waverly-Shell Rock in last year’s semifinal round before topping CR Xavier 32-24 in overtime for the team’s first ever state football championship. The Titans are in their 17th playoff appearance and fourth trip to to the semifinals.
The winner will take on either #7 North Scott or #2 Cedar Rapids Xavier in the Class 4A State Championship game.
