(Audubon) Tyler Christensen is heading the Audubon girls and boys wrestling teams this winter.
The Wheeler girls got practice started a week ago with roster size of six. “We have a lot of young girls. Most of our team is just freshmen and sophomores. They are really excited to try something new and be a part of our school’s history with our first girls wrestling program.”
Coach Christensen says experience is limited. “Really starting with the basics. It’s pretty much brand new to everybody. I take the same philosophy even when I’m coaching the boys. The best wrestlers can always get better at the little stuff. This week I am hounding on stance, penetration steps, knee over toe to the mat, and just getting that movement down fluid so we can be an attack style wrestling team.”
Time will tell what to expect from this team. “We have some that are progressing pretty well. It’s still really early. I have hope and faith that a lot of them will catch up. It’ll be telling once we start live wrestling in the room.”
They are still in the process of filling their schedule with duals and tournaments, but expect to be in action most weekends.
